Ribbit!

Found this at my front door. Thought i'd share since the color was distinctive.
Hi guys, just did some rearranging, moved the chat box from just coding it into the webpage to creating its own little 'sandbox' if you will for easier maintenance and widened it. Have not found a way of making it easier to create posts, such as maybe from Facebook. Instead, i have updated the blogger interface to the latest version, which is less buggy and cumbersome, and i would recommend you guys give it a try. The scaby profile also now has a profile picture.

If anyone has suggestions for things to add/remove or rearrange, you can give it a go, alternatively, let me know and i will do it, no problems. Anyone else wanna do some writing? This is pretty fun... =p

~Ch'n-Yao~

P.S. Update the next meet up box if you are able.

AAAOOOOGAAAA!

=p

Well what have we here? Yes, i finally managed to get this blog fixed, seems that our old password was hacked by a spam program which then used the gmail account for nefarious activities, (mostly sending spam emails, nothing serious) and was deactivated by google. Anywho, the password has been changed and the pictures have been restored, so i will see if i can link this to the facebook thing to make it easier to use. And if anyone wants the new password, i basically changed the year from '03' to '2003'. If you need a better hint than that, let me know.

So, just a quick update, Arthur is in Sydney, Shamus, Ling and Bob are here, not here as in next to me, but here as in PJ, and last but not least, Colvin is in Penang. Just for your information, i will be flying off to Melbourne on the 25th of March, so yeah, if i don't see you guys before then, BYEE!!!

I just felt like i had to post something, the blog was going to go almost a year without anything!

Wheeee!

To answer Art's question...

And also just because i think its my turn to post... (and im sorta free, being merdeka day and all that).

Anyways, Art asked if i am working....

Yes, yes i am... interning at Amsteel Mills Sdn Bhd. They are owned by the Lion Group, the same people that own Parkson. As the name implies, Amsteel is a maker of steel, meaning, they can produce steel to your specifications, if you want it to have a certain amount of say... magnesium, then they will cast the steel to your formula. My office is in Banting, for the uninitiated, it is near LCCT... yeah, its an hours drive one way and i make the trip every day, been working there since june, finishing this Friday the 3rd. =p

And Shamus, i met Yi Ping over the weekend, she says she has been trying (but failing) to get a hold of you... she is leaving malaysialand next week, so she kinda wants to see you methinks so yeah, just a heads up...

P.S. i also kinda want to see you too.. =p

Anywho, have fun in Brunei Ling! And whose next to post?? =p

P.P.S. Happy Merdeka? =p

Feeling Nostalgic

Hiya everyone,

Been a really stress riddled week, for those of you who follow facebook occasionally, you will notice i have been going mad in my status updates... do not worry, im just... just de-stressing. Funny way to de-stress i grant you, but you will not believe how satisfying it is when they actually succeed in making someone hungry.

More on the cause of the stress later... need to rant for a bit now.

Anyways, yes, thanks for the birthday wish you guys, i really miss celebrating it back home... the standard going off to 1 Utama for pizza and a movie era will be sorely missed... Oh well, i really look forward to seeing all of you again, hopefull before the year is out? =p Being overseas for so long has made me realise how much i took everything for granted, the friends... the weekly badminton... family wasnt taken for granted though... hehe... =p Nah, i just miss it all... though surprisingly, the longing for home thing is not that bad anymore, well, what i mean is its not as bad as when i first came to the UK, in fact if anything i think i feel like im gonna miss Nottingham, (which, incidently is not in London as previously thought by a certain friend of ours =p *koff*shamus!*koff*) more then i miss DJ. But i think its because when i left Malaysia, in the back of my head, i knew i would be back... just not for a while... but when i leave Nottingham.. i know its most probably for good, and thats kinda sad, i have really gotten to like this place, its very small shopping area (smaller than 1 Utama methinks!), the myriad of chinese buffets and international buffets, the people, the sights and sounds, old market square at sunset, the whole cream milk, the farm fresh meats and veg, it will all be missed.

As the 2nd year is now officially over, and since im one of the last people to leave UK, i actually have the fortune of being the guy to give all your leftover food to, thats right, i have 5 cans/packs/bottles of hot chocolate mix, and thats just the hot chocolate.. hehe, not that im complaining... I just hope i can finish it all. Anyways, where was i, oh yeah... its been an interesting experience, ive learned a lot, most of it academic related, but i have also learned some important things about living independantly, as well as learning to adapt to a new situation... so overall, i would say the decision to do this 1 year abroad was the right one, and Shamus, if you get a chance, i say you should go for it, its a real eye opener. One thing though, dont go to a place with a lot of Malaysians, im not saying its a bad thing, just saying that it will actually make you more keen to approach other international students and not tend to stick to your 'sama kaki geng'... i mean, isnt that part of the whole experience? (Oh no, im rambling again...)

Ah well, im actually still working on the final bits of my families trip to the UK. Trying to find a place to stay near Edinburgh aint easy i tell you... every guest house seems to be full.. or too expensive...(Hence the stress!) =(

Oh well, hopefully i can find something soon!

Col, you look very serious in your picture, why so serious? =p You look like you need to turn that frown upside down!(see what i did there? it rhymes the frown with.... oh nevermind...) Haha, why dont you take a pic with your Mr. X and put it here as your official photo... =p

Shamus, hope everythings going well with you... have you started on your Scaby storybook yet?

Art, aussieland cold ah? I am actually considering maybe going to Aus to visit you guys leh late Aug or so... would you be free then or even in Aus?

Bob, aah... you dont really come on here do you? Anyways... hope your well Builder Bob! =p

Ling, ah you i know visit this blog as well, thanks for the skype call that day, hope you are well in East Malaysia, dont get too fat k? =p Kidding!

~Ch'n-Yao~

As a bonus (im feeling nice.. =p), here is a picture of me on my birthday... im considering using it as a profile picture... we shall see how things go.. =p

Ouchies!

What a week.... =p

Hope everyone's well, congrats Shamus! Hehe, you know what for. =p

Been really busy for a while, my uni just finished the Tricampus Games, it involves students from all 3 of Nottingham Uni's campuses, the malaysian one, china one and UK one sending thier atheletes to compete. So they sent 52 students from Malaysia, all at no cost to the students, how cool is that? Im gonna go back and train for a sport... =p This years event was hosted by the UK campus you see.

Its a really bad time to be travelling, especially for those of us coming back from foreign lands, my uni has had 10 confirmed cases of the flu of the swine... now everyone is being extra carefull, but i think if you are meant to get it, you will. The Malaysian students who came to UK for the Tricampus games, 2 of the girls went back to Malaysia and are now confirmed to have it... so when i come back, you guys better not visit me for a week! Need to quarantine! =p

So who is on oliday now? Shamus has classes on if im not mistaken... Art? Colvinator? i think col cant come here coz his uni banned blogspot right? Bob?
Anyways, i probably will be more able to write posts from now on...

May the food be with you!

Update

Hello Fellow Citizens of SCABYville!! Fear not for it is I, Bob's-hairdo-copying-Calvin's-doom-character-shooting-Arthur's-name-calling-Shamus's-rib-poking-friend-of-the-masses-YAO!!! (Phew, that was a real mouthfull right there!)

Anywho, just a quick update, im back in Nottingham, which is not in London as some of you may think. =p Classes have started since monday the 20th of April, and the work has all returned with a vengeance and braying for my precious cache of sleep time.

When i say that i am back, i mean that during the Easter holidays from 20th of March to 20th of April, i have managed to visit Paris, Amsterdam, London, Prague and Vienna. All in all a very nice holiday, with only a very limited amount of study time... but oh well... europe is nice! If you guys are interested to see the pictures, i could upload some of them the next time i post here. otherwise... meh... =p

I did a slight modification to the side of the blog, i moved the note on the tentative meet up, just to make sure it is seen, really like what was done with regards to the pictures of each member in SCABY, so yeah, good job Mr Shamus! So you can either update there or write a post here if your feeling hardworking... =p

So how is everyone? Arthur doing well down under? Shamus, how are your classes going along? Bob, are you still mistaken for cik? Col, dentistry going well in Salem? And since Ling does come here too, Hows things in East Malaysia Ah Ling??? =p

I guess thats about all i have to say at the moment... So once again, this is Arthur's-name-calling-Bob's-hairdo-copying-Shamus's-rib-poking-Calvin's-doom-character-shooting-friend-of-the-masses-Yao, signing off.

Yes....

Haha, yeah Shamus. The event in question is known as Earth Hour, it is an annual event organised by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) not the wrestling troupe mind you! =p The event was stated in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, if im not mistaken and the basic premise is to urge people to switch off their non-essential electrical items for an hour from 8.30pm local time.

It has been said to produce a savings from 1 to 9 percent of a countries power supply, which doesnt seem like much, but if taken as awhole, actually does make a significant difference... though i have no idea by how much. =p So yeah, its a good idea to talk about it, Thanks Shamus! =p

The official website is here by the way, http://www.earthhour.org/

Sadly i wont be able to help then as i think i will be on a bus to Amsterdam! Easter Holidays! Whee! =p

Woo, I like!

Yeah, well as mentioned in the title, i am liking whats being done to the blog, looks really good with the thumbnails on the side... =p to bead we dont have any pictures of our after saturday morning badminton and breakfast 'sessions' when we go 'shooting'.... haha, an uninfformed american might think we go on shooting sprees! =p

Anyways, last week was the Nottingham Malaysian Night 2009, its basically an event revolving around a play which is for us, the Nottingham Malaysian Society, to showcase Malaysian culture to the international community. I was a volunteer, in the props division, which was really fun, i got to build really cool props like a 6-foot high tree, a huge-ass eiffel tower and all that. Then on the night itself i had to be one of the people who goes on stage to switch props around for different scenes. Really cool stuff. Sadly though, since i was so busy working, i didnt get to see the show, but i am told that i will be getting a recording of it when the video team has finished editing, so when i bring it back maybe you guys would wanna watch it too? It was really good, if i believe what was the general consensus amongst the audience... =p

Theres me backstage talking to an extra... dont mind the blue hardhat, we didnt have to wear them i was just fooling around.. as usual! =p But we are dressed in all black coz the scene transitions are done in the dark while the show is still going on, coz we actually split the stage up into 3 parts, so when theres a scene on stage 2 for instance, we will be on stage 1 changing the props or something... =p

Well, i guess i have bored you enough with all the details on that night, bottomline is, it was really great fun and i wanted to share what i had done with you guys! Oh, and i want an oreo mcflurry, i cant believe 2 people in the SCABY5 have never had it before, such a shame... Oh and if you guys wanna have a online meet up, i should be free today(friday) and sat and sunday. =p

Take care guys and i hope i dont sound too gay when i say i miss you all! =p

Shamus... =p

Shamus shamus shamus... =p
Wow, i have to say, nicely done on the changes made to the website... =p
The other thing is, about the song you put up, purely from a melodic point of view, i can see why you would say the song is nice, the beat is really quick and the tune is catchy, too bad your classes have already started, otherwise i might have suggested you write your own words to put in the song! If i remember correctly you also liked to write poems right? I remember writing them with you in form 3... =p
Anyways, sorry i have not put any updates in such a long time..but i will post something up again soon, i hope...
Workload has been piling on and on and on.... and on.... and on..... you get the point... anyways, Arthur! adapting well to Aussie life? And Col! Hows things in India??
Bob the builder!! Whats happend to you?? Still growing the ponytail???
Well, i guess thats it for the moment... Shamus, maybe we can do another one of those meet on MSN at a specific time things we used to do... havent used my microphone in a while.. hehe... =p

Cheers!

Hmm, i shall have a go...

I have seen this one before... very cool, basic premise is, a class of people, have to watch a video of a jap dude trying to say certain things in english, the catch is, the class of people cannot under any cicumstances... laugh... if they do, they get heavy duty rotan! =p

Okay, next up is Shamus's hobby... how to tear a phonebook.

An acoustic version of a Matchbox 20 song... Shamus, do you have the mp3 for this?? I want it!! =p

Fish And Chips!

Whilst in York, we (me and some friends) decided to go hunt for some good ol' fashioned fish and chips! Heres the place we entered on the reccomendation of another pub whoose kitchen had closed already. Petergate Fisheries. =p
Heres the cooking station, the front of the shop is for takeaways, and there is a small corridor to the side that leads to the eat-in area. We opted for eat-in take away looks really hard to eat and carry at the same time to be honest.
Theres the storefront. As you can see theres quite a queue.
This is a painting in the corridor of the shop, i thought it looked really nice! =p
The menu.
And heres the food list, theres all the normal chip fare, haddock, cod, then theres the other stuff like pies, jacket potatoes and so on.
And heres my meal, haddock set meal. 5.45 pounds. Gosh it was filling, and this isnt even the normal sized one! I asked for a small even though i was really hungry, coz i was worried it might be too much.
Gosh, look at it! =p
I struggled to finish this but in the end... Burp! =p

So yeah, thats the food, had a great time in York, too bad there wasnt enough time to finish walking around all of the city center. Maybe i will come again. =p

~Ch'n-Yao~

York trip! =p

Heya, heres another update. I joined a trip to York, basically it was 12 pounds, and they take you there by bus in the morning, and your free to jalan-jalan yourself. The bus then leaves at nite. The bus ride was not bad, the busses here are somehow nicerlah, not like the ones we took for our Redang trip! Well anyways, the city center of York is surrounded by a brick wall which is really really old. Heres a part of the wall. =p
Well, this is me with the entrance, the famous York Minster is just through here.
This is a war memorial.
Hehe, angled shot... trying only lah... =p
Lo and behold! Its the York Minster! That building is huge! And it looks fantastic, the architecture... gosh... Didnt go in though, it was 9 pounds per entry... =p
The back part of York Minster, the building is being restored bit by bit.
This is a sculpture of Constantine, for his contribution to christianity in Europe methinks... And here we are posing with it. =p
Luck of all lucks, we actually managed to witness a army procession, and there was a tank on display, here is the tank as they are taking it back after the procession.
This is the St. Michael Belfry, right next to the York Minster. Entrance was free, so we went in, really nice place had a huge organ, no, not that type of organ, i mean an organ of the musical variety. =p
One of the shopping lanes in York. the whole place was buzzing with people. So many sights and sounds, and it was nice and cool, unlike walking around Malaysia. hehe..
There was a dude along the sidewalk selling drawings, he was really good, he was drawing without any references... too bad the paintings were really expensive so i didnt get any.
Heres York Minster in the distance. I had great fun, lots of interesting old buildings to look at and all that. =p

My room. =p

Well, heres something a little different... a photo by photo look at how to get to my room... =p i am staying in Raleigh Park, a student accomodation about 5 minutes walk from the Jubilee Campus, which unfortunately, is not where my classes will be held. But, there is a free hopper bus that travels between campuses, so i can take that to get to University Park, where i have my classes. If i were to walk to University Park, it takes about 30 minutes. But its a real nice walk... =p Anywho, this is the front door to my block, each tenant gets a key, just one key, which is able to open all the doors including this main door. Which i thought was really cool. That is probably why the key will cost 60 pounds if declared lost. And apparently, the locksmith will not duplicate it for you for safety reasons.
So, this is through the main door, as you can see, there is still some mess... the whole accomodation was refubished just before we arrived, so it was almost completed when i moved in.
Thats the staircase which leads to the rooms upstairs. =p my room is just down the hall, on the left.
The door to my flat, theres a mail slot, so letters can be delivered direct to the flat. But packages, tenants are expected to arrange to collect them by themselves with the delivery company, as the accomodation people dont want to be held responsible for our packages. This door also opens with my key.
This is the walkway in my flat, the kitchen is on the left, and all the rooms are along the hall. Mine is the last one in the right. There is also if you noticed, a phone on the wall, that is not a landline, but it is connected to the intercom.
The kitchen door.
Thats the dining table. and a small living area where the leather couches are.
See the key on the cupboard? Since my flat is on the ground floor, all the windows are grilled, no, not cooked, i mean they have metal grills installed. So, if we need to escape the flat in the event of a fire, the key is for us to open said grill.
Thats the workstation, theres an electric stove and everything.
This is the bathroom, there are two in the flat.
And, this is my door. Door C.
My key specifically has to work over here... =p
And this is my room. =p Out the window i can see a John Player And Sons warehouse... probably full of tobacco. There's also a train track.
Another angle. Thats my table, cupboard, shelves, and a notice board.
Another angle. =p
My bed. Wait, whats that on top?
Oh, they gave me a mattress protector too! =p

Sorry it was such a long post... =p Maybe next time it will be food. =p
